PEORIA (25News Now) – A burglary spree Thursday morning in northern Peoria left several cars damaged, worrying the drivers who live in the area.
According to tenants at Haymeadow Apartments, the break-ins happened around 4 a.m. Thursday. They reported that around six cars were burglarized, with one stolen from the parking lot.
One tenant, who wished to remain anonymous, said her back window was shattered and her daughter’s book bag was taken. She said she was surprised by the break-ins, but she had heard about past incidents in the area.
“I do feel like it’s taken a piece of mind from me and the people who are involved, and that it could be a little bit safer with cameras,” she said.
The tenant said the break-in is going to be a significant inconvenience to her and her family.
“It is a burden because I have small children who sit in the back, and it’s going to take about a week to get it fixed through my insurance,” she said.
She said she believes the people breaking into the cars were teens and hopes Peoria Police can crack the case.
Despite signs in the parking lot indicating cameras are present, police could not find any cameras close to the scene.
Peoria Police stats show car theft and break-ins are down in the city, with 218 fewer incidents in 2024 than in 2023.
25News reached out to police, but they chose not to comment.
