Elk Grove Village trustees are expected to grant a one-year extension to the Illinois Housing Development Authority to build a 30-unit senior affordable housing building after the state failed to approve funding for the project earlier this summer.
The proposed two-story building would be located at 750 S. Arlington Heights Rd., just north of Elk Crossing Shopping Center and Biesterfield Road.
The Housing Opportunity Development Corporation, a nonprofit specializing in affordable housing, will reapply for financing in September. A decision on funding is expected in July 2026, according to a village press release.
“This project is a great opportunity to bring quality, affordable housing for seniors to Elk Grove Village,” Richard Koenig, executive director of the Housing Opportunity Development Corporation, said in a statement. “Its location, thoughtful design, and strong community support make it well-suited to meet local needs.”
Mayor Craig Johnson also expressed support for the project.
“The village remains supportive of this project and of HODC’s mission to bring high-quality, affordable housing for seniors to Elk Grove Village,” Johnson said in a written statement.
If funding is awarded in the next cycle, construction could begin as early as 2027.
