City councilors are set to vote on the new housing voucher program focused on getting people out of rehab and on a multi-million dollar industrial bond to help bring a fusion energy production facility to the city.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — City councilors are set to vote on a new housing voucher program and a bond to bring a new fusion energy production facility to Albuquerque.
City Councilor Renee Grout is behind the proposed pilot program that would provide housing vouchers to homeless people who are transitioning out of rehab or sobriety programs.
According to the bill, people would have to agree to stay away from drugs and alcohol and agree to regular drug tests. It’s a 1-year pilot program designed to see if required sobriety leads to better outcomes.
City councilors are also expected to vote on that multi-million dollar industrial bond. California-based Pacific Fusion announced plans to build a state-of-the-art facility at Mesa del Sol earlier this year. The new facility could bring 200 new jobs to Albuquerque if it goes through.
