The library has settled on a deal with Homeport, a developer focused on bringing affordable housing to central Ohio.
COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Metropolitan Library is finalizing a $480,000 land sale to Homeport to build affordable housing on two parcels of land on the east side.
The library purchased the land, which once served as a lumberyard in 2013, to build the Shepard Branch.
Two parcels of land on Nelson Road have sat unused since as library officials decided what they wanted to do with it.
“We have studied it through the years and wanted to make the right decision about how to develop the property so we have taken our time to determine that,” said Wendy Tressler, planning and strategy officer with the library.
Last year, the library asked developers to submit plans and ideas for building affordable housing on the land.
“We understand the community need in the Columbus area for affordable housing of all types and we wanted to be a part of it,” Tressler said.
The library has settled on a deal with Homeport, a developer focused on bringing affordable housing to central Ohio.
Homeport has proposed building home, apartments and housing for seniors.
The library hopes to finalize the deal in the next few months.
