Greensboro Housing & Neighborhood Development Department names new director

The Greensboro Housing & Neighborhood Development Department has its new director.Samuel Hunter will be heading the department and will be tasked with addressing housing challenges in Greensboro. Hunter, a Greensboro resident, most recently served as the Assistant Director of Neighborhood Services for the City of Winston-Salem.Prior to that, Hunter served as a Project Manager and began his career with the City of Winston-Salem as a Planner in 2019.“Mr. Hunter joins the City of Greensboro with the unique skills of administering neighborhood improvement programs to include managing a $30M budget for the Choice Neighborhood Initiative, which created more than 600 affordable homes,” said Assistant City Manager Nasha McCray. “As the City advances the Housing GSO and Road to 10K housing initiatives, Samuel will be instrumental in shaping and implementing a comprehensive housing strategy for Greensboro.”As the Housing Strategy and Development Director, Hunter will be tasked with collaborating across sectors to remove barriers, prioritize affordability, and drive innovative housing solutions citywide. Additionally, as director, he will lead an integrated, cross-departmental approach to housing development, policy implementation, and resource allocation to maximize impact, leveraging funds from both the state and federal levels.“Greensboro is experiencing rapid growth, making this an exciting time to lead this department,” said Hunter. “Forming strategic partnerships with private sector and non-profit stakeholders will generate investment in Greensboro, resulting in a variety of housing options for all residents at a time when the market is scarce.”
