Beaumont/Orange — The Beaumont Housing Authority has assumed control of the City of Orange Housing Authority to address significant financial and operational issues, aligning with U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development standards. Residents were informed of the management change on July 24.
Daaliyah Quinn, a resident of James Zay Roberts Plaza, expressed relief over the takeover. “It was a problem at one point, but I’m glad Beaumont did come and take over because we all needed help out here. I mean big time,” she said.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development identified serious issues with the Orange Housing Authority, including poor performance, financial mismanagement, and non-compliance with regulatory standards. In response, the Beaumont Housing Authority, under the direction of Golden Triangle Redevelopment Corporation, has come to an agreement to take over all operations, including housing programs, since July 7.
Residents have already noticed improvements. “The maintenance, keeping up with the grass, and it looks nice like it’s way better than it was back then,” Quinn said.
The Beaumont Housing Authority stated that improved maintenance is just one of many changes to be expected. Other enhancements include improved resident services and programs, better communication, and stronger financial oversight. Current residents will not need to move or reapply.
BEAUMONT HOUSING AUTHORITY
The Beaumont Housing Authority, under it’s instrumentality, the Golden Triangle Redevelopment Corporation, has formally entered into an agreement to assume operational management of the Housing Authority of the City of Orange (HACO).
This strategic move aims to improve housing services and ensure financial stability for the residents and families served by HACO.
The transition comes in response to longstanding performance challenges at HACO, including operational inefficiencies, financial mismanagement and non-compliance with critical regulatory standards.
“Ensuring that every resident has access to safe, affordable and well-managed housing is at the core of our mission,” said Allison Landrum, Chief Executive Officer of BHA.
“We are committed to restoring confidence in HACO, strengthening operations and providing residents with the quality services they deserve.”
Under the new management agreement, BHA will oversee all aspects of HACO’s operations, including its public housing and Housing Choice Voucher programs.
Immediate priorities will include correcting financial and operational deficiencies and aligning HACO operations with HUD standards and best practices.
BHA brings extensive experience in housing administration, regulatory compliance and community partnerships.
“We look forward to working closely with local leaders, residents and staff to ensure a smooth transition,” Landrum said. “We look forward to working hand in hand to build a stronger future for HACO.
