DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. — A Douglasville woman said she is finally getting relief after her water and sewage bill skyrocketed to $1,500 following three leaking toilets that she said her property management company failed to repair promptly.
Nina Walker said her family typically pays around $100 a month for water and sewer services. However, in July, her water bill climbed to $436, and her sewer charge reached $390. The following month brought similar charges, bringing the total to roughly $1,500.
“I called the utility billing company, Conservice, right away,” Walker said. “But for two months I kept going back and forth between Conservice and Mynd, and no one would give me an answer.”

Walker said she and her husband pay rent on time and take pride in their home. The couple was told a possible credit could be issued after several billing cycles, but decided to pay $800 to keep the water service active.
After Atlanta News First Investigates repeatedly contacted Mynd, Walker said a company representative contacted her and said she would not be responsible for the $1,500 bill. However, Walker is still waiting for the adjusted amount owed.
Atlanta Legal Aid, a nonprofit organization that helps with landlord-tenant disputes, offers several recommendations for renters facing similar issues:
- Report problems in writing immediately and follow up until repairs are made.
- Do not withhold rent, as this could lead to an eviction.
- To avoid service shutoffs, pay the utility bill and continue disputing charges until the issue is resolved.
